The CEO of Twitter, Elon Musk, who was ranked first on the previous list in 2022, was placed second on Forbes’ list of the top 25 wealthiest individuals in the world in 2023, behind Bernard Arnault.

Forbes called Musk’s drop from first place “this year’s second-biggest loser,” adding that “Elon Musk had it worse” because Musk lost his title as the wealthiest person in the world as a result of his pricey acquisition of Twitter, which he partially financed by selling Tesla shares, which alarmed investors. Musk is now listed second, but his value has decreased by $39 billion since last year.

As Amazon shares fell 38% this year, Jeff Bezos’ wealth saw him fall from No. 2 in the world in 2022 to No. 3 this year.

Additionally, two millionaires who were among the top 25 — Zhang Yiming and Changpeng Zhao — lost their positions and were unable to appear on the list for this year.

While Zhao, the creator of Binance, also known as CZ, plummeted from No. 19 last year all the way to No. 167 during the crypto winter, Yiming, the founder of Tik Tok-parent Bytedance, dropped one spot, from No. 25 to No. 26, as his troubled business has taken a haircut from investors.
