The Lekki Concession Company (LCC) has decided that toll collection on the Lekki-Ikoyi connection bridge in Lagos State will be postponed.
Yomi Omomuwasan, the LCC’s Managing Director, announced the news in a statement on Friday.
He said that the company’s decision to postpone tolling was motivated by the necessity to continue engaging stakeholders in the topic.
The deferral, according to Omomuwasan, will allow more customers to register for electronic toll devices.
InsightnaijaTVreports that toll collection was set to restart on April 17 after being halted due to the closure of operations triggered by the #EndSARS protests in October 2020.
On April 1, 2022, the toll plaza reopened, however, stakeholders adamantly opposed the organization’s proposal to begin tolling.
“As a responsible organization, we must take full cognizance of everyone within the axis. Therefore, we want to continue with the ongoing engagements with our stakeholders,” the LCC MD said.
“The preparatory operations to resume tolling on the Bridge have been smooth so far, and we are grateful to all the key stakeholders for their cooperation.
“The planned commencement of toll collection has now been postponed, allowing more of our customers to register for the electronic toll devices to enable seamless passages at the toll plaza,” the LCC statement reads.
