At a news conference held on Friday to launch the initiative, Prof. Adetokunbo Fabamwo, the Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, said the intervention was a historic occasion.

“What we are doing here today is about interventional cardiovascular operations that we have planned in conjunction with the Cardiovascular Education Foundation for some of our less fortunate individuals.

“This is yet another historic occasion for LASUTH, and it has been made possible by our willingness to collaborate, form coalitions, and associate with like-minded parties throughout the years.

The fact that we recently teamed with a group to establish a cardiac catheterization laboratory—the first and only functional lab of its kind in any public institution in Nigeria—means that they have arrived at LASUTH at the perfect time.

Since the lab was established, we have been working on cases, but with this mission, the facility’s capabilities will be fully utilised because there are numerous processes taking place there.

They are also collaborating with our internal experts so that knowledge may be transmitted, he added.

Fabamwo praised the foundation for cooperating with the hospital and offering patients medicinal solutions.

“The missionaries brought all the very expensive supplies required for some of the surgeries with them out of kindness and generosity.

“This is a very laudable effort,” he remarked. “The patients are paying practically nothing for the operations.

In order to prevent cardiovascular illnesses, he recommended Nigerians to maintain healthy lifestyles.

The goal of the alliance, according to Dr. Obi Emerole, President of the Cardiovascular Education Foundation, is to help patients who cannot afford the necessary medical care.

“Over the course of the upcoming week, we will be delivering care to many patients, including Geographic Variation, pacemaker insertion, and cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) implantation, among other procedures.

Nearly 20 individuals who would typically be unable to afford the care they require now have the chance to do so.

Additionally, there will be a chance to teach some of the cardiologists in Nigeria while also having the chance to learn from them.

The consultant cardiologists from the United States commented, “I must appreciate the effort of LASUTH cardiologists for having laid the foundation so that this intervention can begin immediately.”
