Lagos has been ranked 72nd on a new list of the world’s wealthiest cities for 2023, with New York, Tokyo in Japan, and the Bay Area in Silicon Valley taking the first three slots.

The ranking, which was created by London-based consultancy Henley & Partners, ranked the cities according to the number of millionaires who resided there as of December 31, 2022. Cities from the United States and China topped the list, with Johannesburg, South Africa, being named the wealthiest city in Africa. Lagos is the only city from Nigeria to appear on the list.

Henley & Partners stated on its website that it also took into account the quantity of expensive residences in the neighbourhood.
