The Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudasiru Ajayi Obasa has called on Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to direct the commissioner for Tourism, Art and Culture, and Attorney General of the State, Justice Moyosore Onigbanjo visit the Prevention Law, 2015 with aim of removing all vestige of slave trade and colonial masters.
Obasa made the call on Tuesday, noting that the purpose of the plea is not to change history but as not to eulogize the colonialism superiority.
The speaker who also directed his Clerk, Azeez Sani to address a letter to Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari seeking Executive Order for the removal of streets and building named after colonial masters changed.
“The motion is about us, about Africans. We have to tell the world about our own civilization. The resolve is not broad enough. It is not about Lagos State alone.
We have to tell African Union about reparations started by late Chief M.K.O Abiola”
The speaker also condemned the treatment meted on late George Floyd in United State.
The motion was however seconded by Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu representing Eti-Osa Constituency 2, noting that slave trade history makes the black feel inferior which needs to be corrected.
“This is a right step in the right direction and we need to change our psyche and history that will not make us feel as human beings”.
