Lagos Assembly Urges FG, States To Prevent Spread Of New Covid-19 Variant

Members of Lagos State Assembly have called on the Federal and the State Governments to ensure proper monitoring of immigrants into the Country to prevent the spread of the new variant of COVID-19.

A member of the assembly representing Shomolu constituency one, Mr. Rotimi Olowo who raised the matter during plenary stated that the Federal Government should ensure that people coming from abroad were quarantined for one week, and that they should go through mandatory COVID-19 test.

Mr. Olowo implored Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to ensure public enlightenment on the need to observe COVID-19 safety protocols such as facemask usage, washing of hands and maintaining social distance.

Speaking on the Motion, member representing Agege constituency two, Mr. Oluyinka Ogundimu and his colleague from Badagry constituency two, Mr. Setonji David harped on the need for government to provide COVID-19 vaccines for the citizens.

Other lawmakers who contributed, spoke against another lockdown in Lagos due to the economic downturn in the country, but advocated precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the pandemic in the State.

The Assembly also deliberated on the resolutions of the Southern Governors Forum during the last meeting in Lagos State, with the lawmakers unanimously expressing support for the position of the Governors.

Obasa said that the resolutions of the Governors on rotational presidency, State police, ban on open grazing and sharing of resources to the States should be accepted by the Federal Government. He further stated that the Federal and State Governments should ensure proper monitoring of immigrants into the Country to prevent the spread of the new variant of COVID-19.
