According to information released by the Kano State government, 29,031 students received N336 million in fees for the 2022 National Examination Council exams.
Malam Muhammad Garba, the state’s information commissioner, said this on Monday in Kano.
Garba was responding to a media story that implied state students might not take the NECO exam this year because the government couldn’t pay their exam fees.
He clarified that the payout covered 1,018 students with disabilities and 15,313 students who had 9 credits left on their qualifying examination.
He claimed that while the local government councils paid for 5,400 pupils, the cash also covered 7,300 kids for Special Intervention, which is essentially for girl child education.
The commissioner further clarified that, contrary to rumours, the exam was not conducted today.
“Today (Monday) is the “Test Interpretation Practical”, which is only for teachers to come up with modalities for the practical exams,” the commissioner said.
