The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been notified by Mr. Kabir Ibrahim Masari, Bola Tinubu’s running mate and the APC’s presidential candidate, that his school transcripts are missing.

This occurs in the midst of the debate around Tinubu’s alleged loss of credentials.

Tinubu was accused of lying under oath when he claimed to have attended the University of Chicago, Government College, and Ibadan.

According to the article, Tinubu ran for governor of Lagos State in 1999 and 2003 and claimed that he had lost his certificates.

In the midst of this scandal, his running companion Mr. Masari also submitted to the country’s election commission a sworn statement for the loss of some original documents.

According to an affidavit the APC vice presidential candidate sent to INEC, he lost important papers such the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) for one plot in Katsina state (KT 17522), his Grade II certificate from Katsina Teachers College, and his elementary school transcript.

Part of an affidavit that Masari submitted to INEC on July 17, 2022 after being sworn in at the Supreme Court reads, “That sometimes (sic) in January 2021, while on transit within Wuse Area, FCT-Abuja, I discovered that my original Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) of Plot, No KT 17522, GRA Katsina, Katsina State; Certificate of Kaduna State Development Centre from 1994 – 1995; Grade II Certificate from Katsina Teachers’ College (KTC) from 1978 – 1983 and First Leaving School Certificate issued by Masari Primary, Katsina State, from 1972 – 1978, got lost.”

“That all efforts made to trace the documents proved abortive hence this affidavit,” the affidavit added.

The electoral legislation requires candidates to submit their personal information, which will be made public and available for review before elections. Politics Tinubu once admitted that he did not attend the government college in Ibadan despite being admitted to secondary school but dropping out due to poverty.

Masari’s name has been put forth by the APC as Tinubu’s vice presidential running partner for the 2023 presidential election in order to fulfill the deadline of June 17 set by INEC. Masari’s name was reportedly submitted as a stand-in for Tinubu’s running mate until the party could locate one. Later, though, Tinubu declared that he was still searching for one, confirming allegations that this was the case.
