Peseiro won twice against Sierra Leone (2-1) and Sao Tome and Principe in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers (10-0).

Nigeria has fallen to Mexico (2-1), Ecuador (1-0), and Algeria under the 62-year-old (2-1).

Although most fans have not been inspired by Peseiro’s performances, it still seems too soon to pass judgement.

According to Deji Faremi of the Busy Buddies, yes.

“I think it’s hard to tell. It’s been just five games. Three of those have been friendlies.

“The two competitive games, we’ve won, so there’s hardly a pattern yet.

“I think we should give it some time. Obviously, we want to win games, but it’s important to see if the coach is building at something and if any clear trend is forming. There isn’t any yet,” Faremi tells Daily Post.

Temisan Okomi of Classic FM agrees with Faremi.

“It’s difficult to analyse though. Two games in, without a fully fit squad; how do you score him? Shouldn’t even be a conversation, if you ask me,” Okomi says.

Peseiro “has had to work with different squads,” Plus TV’s Wale Agbede notes, but he quickly adds, “I think he should receive some more time. However, I normally have low hopes for him.

Despite establishing an early lead against Algeria, Peseiro declared after the match: “I feel more confident than before.

“One more step to that challenge to win the AFCON. Of course, before that, we need to qualify, we need more camping, we need more friendly matches because we want our team to play at a high level.

“For that, we need to improve our organization, try new dynamics, new set pieces and work hard and believe that we can be better. We have the talent but we have to improve our organization.”
