Two persons in Isoko area of Delta State were on Wednesday ran over by a commercial bus belonging to a private transport company in the state.
The victims were among community youths who blocked all entry and exit points of Isoko in protest against the alleged killing of about ten youths from Oleh during an inter-communal clash over a parcel of land with Ozoro last month.
Fresh trouble started when the community youths within Isoko axis decided to blocked their entrance and exit routes, calling for justice for the murdered youths during the said communal clash.
Following the blockade, locals said there was a mad rush by motorists who negotiated internal routes to avoid being trapped at the middle of the protest.
In the process, it was learnt, the commercial bus which apparently lost control as a result of over acceleration ran over the two victims along Owhelogbo Road, killing them on the spot.
Irked by the development, youths were said to have set the bus on fire to avenge the death of their colleagues.
“Owhelogbo and Olomoro people are not happy, nothing is being done to address the gruesome killings.
“Owhelogbo youths have blocked the road, Oleh, also blocked all the link roads, even in Olomoro, the road is blocked,” a source stated.
The source alleged that a prominent politician in the area went to effect the release arrested suspects in connection to the murder of ten Oleh youths without proper reconciliation.
He expressed fear that the situation may snowball into war against Ozoro Kingdom if urgent steps were not taken to avert the brewing anarchy.
The sources also disclosed that passengers are now stranded in Ozoro, as there are no buses and other vehicles driving in and out while the journey of two hours was now six hours.
“Our politicians, kings and government should look at the matter before it fully degenerate into war,” the source pleaded.
Head of Operations of the state command of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Bakare Fatai Adesina, noted that he got information about a crash in the area but could not give further details as at the time of filing this report.
