Governor of Rivers State and PDP presidential candidate Nyesom Ezenwo Wike; Governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu; Abia State PDP chairman, Dr. Alwell Asiforo Okere; and former Abia State governor, Senator Theodore Orji, who represents Abia Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, during Wike’s meeting with Abia State delegates in Umuahia on Friday.
Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has urged leaders and delegates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State to trust him as the sole presidential candidate capable of defending Ndi Igbo interests.
Governor Wike, a PDP presidential candidate, met with the party’s leaders and delegates on Friday in Abia State Government House in Umuahia to garner support ahead of the party’s presidential primary later this month.
The Rivers State governor added that he would not be the type of leader who would pass up the opportunity to confront social injustice and other forms of unjust treatment that people face in Nigeria while serving in public office.
Governor Wike restated his conviction in Nigeria’s restructuring and stated that he is determined to be the first to begin the process of strengthening Nigerians’ sense of belonging.
“I say so with all amount of seriousness and I challenge anybody who is from the Southern part of Nigeria; who is from South-South, who is from South-East to say so boldly too. Check all of us, look and determine who can even defend the interest of Ndi Igbo better than me?
“It is not merely to talk. I mean who has the mind. Who has the courage. I have the mind and I have the courage. I will make sure the injustice in this country is being solved.
“Ask them, when they were in power, what did they do? How many of them have spoken out? Look, don’t waste your votes on such people.”
Governor Wike stated that things have fallen apart in the country because those in power of the Federal Government, the All Progressives Congress (APC), lack such capacity.
The governor stated that he is ready to make harsh measures in order to promote national good in an effective and productive manner.
Governor Wike promised that in addition to tackling Nigeria’s many problems, he would provide the security agencies with the necessary supplies and other support to enable them to combat insurgency and banditry within a set timeframe.
“That is what leadership is all about. You must be courageous to take decisions people are thinking that is impossible. Inability to take decisions, that is our problem in this country.
“But I will take those decisions that people are running away from. I will take it.”
Governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, who had previously hosted governor Wike on a courtesy visit, said they had identified a leader that is consistent, has a good reputation, and is trustworthy.
Nigeria is in a hazardous condition with a dark future, according to Dr. Ikpeazu, and governor Wike must establish national unity, save the country, and stabilize socioeconomic progress.
Senator Theodore Orji, who represents Abia Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, said Governor Wike is qualified to lead Nigeria because he is a performer.
He promised the presidential candidate that Abia state delegates would back him up.
Hassan Dakwambo, the former governor of Gombe State, also spoke, stating that Governor Wike is a tried and true politician who is psychologically and physically prepared to be Nigeria’s best president.
Most delegates are governor Wike converts, according to Abia State PDP chairman Dr. Alwell Asiforo Okere, because they believe in the leadership he will deliver as a result of what he accomplished in Rivers State.
