Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has reacted to the death of Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, who died in Igbomoso, Oyo State, in the early hours of Wednesday. The death of the former Oyo State governor, who was 71 years old at the time of death, was confirmed by sources close to the Alao-Akala family.
When he was invited to offer a goodwill message during an ongoing interfaith prayers for Oyo workers, Seyi Makinde, who also verified the death, dropped the clue. The Governor, who stated that he learned of the tragedy at the gathering, just requested a minute of quiet.
As a mark of respect for one of his predecessors, he also ordered that the continuing program be abruptly ended.
Otunba Alao Akala was the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) chieftain till his death. In 2007, Alao-Akala was elected as the executive governor of Oyo state after contesting and winning the gubernatorial election as a candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and he served until May 2011.
According to reports, he returned from Abuja last night and died while sleeping. According to another source, the former Governor’s convoy had already been rolled out for a trip to Ibadan before to the incident. Concerns were aroused, according to the source, when the former Governor, who was supposed to join the convoy, failed to appear, leading some of his aides to rush into the residence, where he was found dead. The cause of his death has yet to be determined.
