An enormous land has been set aside for Fulani herders in Borno State for the Ruga project.
This was disclosed on Monday by the state Governor, Babagana Zulum, InsightnaijaTV reports.
Zulum disclosed this in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja when he visited the Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Sabo Nanono and was contained in a statement by his Special Adviser on Communications and Strategy, Isa Gusau, on Monday.
NAN reports that the land was approved under the National Livestock Development Plan, NLDP, in the state.
According to Zulum while giving details of the project, the approved land is located in the Central part of Borno State.
The governor’s statement which copy was made available to reporters today reads: “Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum on Monday visited the Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Alh. Mohammad Sabo Nanono in Abuja, towards domesticating the Federal Government’s programme on ranching otherwise known as ‘Ruga’ project.
“Governor Zulum informed the Minister that he had already approved the land for the Ruga project.
“Zulum explained that, in addition to the ongoing ranching project sited in the central part of Borno, the State was in another collaborative project that will be extended to southern and northern parts of the State”, Gusau quoted Zulum as saying.
Meanwhile, a Fulani group has declared that Southern governors should expect no peace for standing by their ban on open grazing, InsightnaijaTV reports.
