The warning strike which was embarked upon by workers in the State lasted for three days after series of deliberation and negotiation with appropriate bodies.

The strike which is aimed at treating some of the pressing needs of the workers was called off upon the agreement reached between Head of Service, Peju Babafemi, Senior Special Assistant on Labour Matters, Olayemi Esan, Permanent Secretary Office of Establishment and Service Matters, Bayo Opeyemi and Chairman Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade (Pharm.) Kolapo Olatunde, Chairman Trade Union Congress (TUC), Sola Adigun, Chairman Joint Negotiating Council (JNC)Kayode Fatomiluyi, Gbenga Olowoyo on behalf of organized labour and their secretaries.

According to the agreement; ” The Organized Labour in Ekiti State on 17th July, 2020 issued 14-Day Ultimatum to the State Government on some outstanding issues on the welfare of workers in the public service.

After the meeting with Government officials and labour leaders, an agreement was reached to ;

“The State Government will ensure the continuous payment of the monthly gross salaries of workers.

“That the payment of the financial benefits of the 2015 promotion benefits will be implemented in September, 2020 while the payment for the subsequent years – 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 will follow.

“That the outstanding deductions for the months of May and June 2020 will be paid in phase.

“That Government will pay the outstanding deductions, salaries and leave bonuses in phases.

“That negotiation on implementation of the minimum wage and consequential adjustment will resume as soon as the COVID 19 subsides.

“That other outstanding issues affecting public service relating to service matters shall be looked into in due course.

“That the 3-Day warning strike proposed to commence on Monday, 3rd August 2020 is called off immediately.”
