A High Court sitting in Osun State voided the nomination of Senator Ademola Adekele as candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the July Governorship Election in the State.

Osun PDP defies court order, to proceed with gov primary

The court, in a judgment that was delivered by Justice Adeyinka Aderibigbe nullified Adeleke’s nomination on the premise that the 215 Wards Executive Officers that participated in the parallel Gubernatorial primary held at WOCDIF Centre were authentic and authorized Ward Executive Officers permitted to vote as delegates.

The old, the young have chosen me as face of PDP to confront APC —Dotun Babayemi

Justice Adeyinka Aderibigbe affirmed Dotun Babayemi as the authentic gubernatorial candidate of the PDP and also granted an order of Mandatory Interim Injunction restraining the defendants/respondents from recognizing any other governorship primaries of the PDP in Osun State.

Babayemi emerged from the parallel gubernatorial primary at WOCDIF Centre, Ring Road, Osogbo, where party stalwart like former Gov. Olagusoye Oyinlola and others were present.

The court stressed that the exercise embarked upon by the National Working Committee of the PDP on Saturday at the stadium where Senator Ademola Adeleke emerged was null and void.

The court, therefore, adjourned the case till March 16 for further hearing, while ordering INEC and PDP to recognise Dotun Babayemi as the valid candidate of the party pending the determination of the suit before it.

InTv had reported that some members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State have asked the leadership of the party to disqualify a former lawmaker, Senator Ademola Adeleke, from contesting its Governorship primary election.

The party members under a group known as Concerned Members of PDP disclosed this in a petition to the appeal committee of the Osun State Gubernatorial Screening Committee.

Adeleke was PDP’s candidate in the September 22, 2018 governorship election in the state and he lost the election to incumbent governor, Gboyega Oyetola, of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Concerned Members of PDP in the petition sought Adeleke’s disqualification from participating in party’s Governorship primary for allegedly submitting fake certificates.
