President Muhammadu Buhari has been cleared of nepotism and cronyism, according to the presidency, and those who blame him for Nigerian divisiveness are mistaken.
On Sunday, Buhari was mocked by angry Catholic Bishop Matthew Kukah about the plight of the nation.
According to Kukah, Buhari has undone his predecessors’ achievements in ensuring that Nigerians are unified and coexist peacefully with their neighbors.
The outspoken priest claimed that Buhari’s clannish and divisive demeanor has entrenched discord and nepotism, stressing that individuals of different ethnicities who had previously lived in concord are now entangled in strife over disputes that could have been settled otherwise.
In his Easter message on Sunday, Kukah delivered his verdict on President Buhari.
He claimed that Buhari’s preferential treatment of his cronies and relatives had shattered the nation’s unity, resulting in full-fledged ethnic and religious crises.
Kukah lamented that “years of friendships, cultural exchange, and collaboration built over time have now come under serious pressure from stereotyping.”
In a subtle answer to Kukah, Femi Adesina, Buhari’s special assistant on media and publicity, said Buhari critics should be held accountable for the country’s profound divisions.
In a tweet on his official Twitter profile, Adesina said individuals who make divisive remarks are the ones who blame Buhari for the country’s lack of unity.
