Bashir Ahmad, President Muhammadu Buhari’s social media adviser, has announced his intention to run for a seat in the House of Representatives on the APC platform (APC).
The 30-year-old Kano State native will seek the APC’s nomination to run for the Albasu/Gaya/Ajingi Federal Constituency seat, which is now held by Abdullahi Mahmud Gaya, a member of the ruling party.
The APC set the fee of nomination and expression of interest forms for House of Representatives candidates at N10 million, although it allowed a 50% discount for those under the age of 40.
On Saturday, Ahmad posted photographs of himself filling out the forms to his Twitter page: “In Allah’s name… I’ve just finished filling out my half of the form; the remainder will be completed by my constituents, the good people of Kano’s LGs of Gaya, Ajingi, and Albasu, whom I’ll be representing in the House of Representatives by God’s grace. May Allah (SWT) bless us with victory!”

Meanwhile, there are indications that Ahmad resigned from his position in accordance with a contentious provision in the Electoral Act that requires all political appointees who want to run for elective office in the 2023 general election to resign at least 30 days before their respective parties’ primary elections.
As seen by InsightnaijaTV, Ahmad has deleted his work title from his Twitter bio, which previously stated “Personal Assistant on New Media to @Mbuhari, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
Section 84, sub-section 12 of the Electoral Act, states: “No political appointee at any level shall be a voting delegate or be voted for at the convention or congress of any political party for the purpose of the nomination of candidates for any election.”
