Omoyele Sowore, a Nigerian human rights activist, has announced his aspiration to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.
Sowore, who announced his candidacy for president on Facebook on Tuesday, plans to fly the African Action Congress banner (AAC).
“SOWORE FOR PRESIDENT,” the publisher of an online newspaper wrote.
InsightnaijaTV reports Sowore was the AAC’s presidential candidate in the 2019 election, however he lost to President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Sowore had previously stated that he had never campaigned for Muhammadu Buhari to be elected President of Nigeria.
Anyone accusing Sowore of advocating for Buhari should show evidence, according to Sowore.
He made the denial during an interview with Punch published on Sunday, in which he was questioned why he and others campaigned for Buhari to become Nigeria’s President in 2015.
The activist, on the other hand, rejected the claim in his answer and challenged anyone who believes he campaigned for Buhari to produce evidence.
He had said: “That is not correct. If you or anyone could provide just one evidence of where I appear in a campaign for Buhari, either a video, or where I spoke on radio, wrote an article, granted an interview, or engaged in any of the processes that could be regarded as a campaign – where I campaigned for Buhari, please, publish it as a journalist.”
