Alhaji Isiaka Iyanda Sawaba, better known by his stage name Easy Sawaba, was one of the most powerful figures in Nigeria’s Fuji music scene.
InsightnaijaTV reports that the Fuji enthusiast died at the age of 71.
The circumstances surrounding his demise are somewhat hazy as of the time of drafting this article.
Sawaba, as he is affectionately known, is a veteran musician who made a name for himself in the Fuji music industry throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
From the stable of old Adetunji Records (Babalaje Records) owned by the current Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso 1, he released more than twenty-two albums, including Suru, Igbo Odaju, Pata Olokun, Ayetoto, and Oroseniwo, among others.
When the supremacy competition between the former and General Kollington Ayinla was raging, Sawaba grew more popular for his prominent role among the then younger generation of Fuji musicians who supported the late Fuji legend, Sikiru Ayinde Barrister.
In 1992, Sawaba joined the Keji Okunowo-led defunct Sony Music label, where he recorded another popular album, Message, which was produced by Laolu Akins.
Correction is his most recent album, which was published in 2018.
