The Chairman of Bariga Local Council, Hon Alabi Kolade David has reiterated the Council’s commitment to engage the people in participatory Government in which citizens will have their say and way.

He also said his administration would promote growth and development of the Council in accordance with the democratic principles of due consultation, full disclosure, transparency, inclusive participation, responsive leadership, rule of law and due process.

The Council boss disclosed these during a stakeholders’ meeting on the Council’s 2022 Budget which was held on Thursday, November 25, 2021 at the Council’s secretariat Bawala, Bariga.

“It is, therefore, in this light that this forum has been organised to demonstrate our commitment to fulfilling our pledge, by getting your inputs and do needs assessment" he said.

Stressing the need for the council to carry out more developmental projects that will impact positively on people’s lives, Hon Alabi added that it was as a result of that need that the council had repositioned governance to enable them to deliver dividends of democracy to the grassroots.

“Today , we stand on the threshold to build a new Bariga, the Bariga of our pride , the Bariga we all would be proud of, hence our policy encompasses repositioning, rebranding and transforming Bariga”

“We are determined to build the Bariga of our dream, the one that will be safe for the residents to live, devoid of garbage littering, stinking drains and dirts.”

“Tt is important that we invite critical stakeholders, because we are operating a bottom top approach and all inclusive governance, in term of infrastructure, education, security, healthcare, environment and social services, so we need to hear from you to make the budget a reality.

The Council chief appreciated the APC Apex leaders, CDC/CDA, youth, market leaders, traditional chiefs and Artisans for their cooperation with his admnistration.

“I know that your expectations are high , very high, with God we will get it done, we need your support and advice to confront our challenges, which is IGR, the outbreak of COVID-19 attributed to the dwindling in IGR, because we dont want to burden our people”. He charged the artisans especially to do more on raising the IGR so that he can deliver on his promises.

Alabi also used the opportunity to inform the audience of all the projects that has been embarked by the administration and long term giant strides the administration has taken .

On road and infrastructures, he mentioned that the administration is on its 28th road that were constructed with precision, and the two remaining roads, Falade and Morohunfolu will be delivered soon. The admnistration has earmarked 38 roads to be done this term, and the roads that were not picked by pressure nor influence. Amongst the roads in consideration are Olorunfunmi-Olorunesan, Bello street, Akinwale street, Olanrewaju street in Ilaje, Tapa sreet, Taiwo street, Oyeyemi street, Oluwatoyin , Alfa Sanni and Olorunkemi, Opeloyeru in ward F amongst others. In Obanikoro axis, the administration planned to construct 6 roads, amongst which are Ebinpejo and Falemi.

On education, he said there are 30 primary schools in Bariga, and the administration’s plan is to remodel at least 15, and it has already started with Igbehinadun primary school, a school that will be completed with sick bay, playground and a dedicated ambulance for any emergency. He said the school will be a contact point in Lagos and Nigeria.

The ALGON president also spoke on health care, he said all the primary health centers will be upgraded after which a new one completed with modern facilities will be erected in Ilaje area.

The Council boss also stated that the environmental team will continue to work assiduously on our canals and drainages.

The long term future of Bariga were also addressed by the chairman, he said investors are willing to partner with Bariga on the regeneration plan, and the intention of his goverment is to turn Bariga to a smart city, adding that women empowerment, youth empowerment is also a focal point of his administration.
