The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASU) is on strike, and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has joined them (ASUU).
According to sources, the demonstration has already started because civil society organizations, NLC members, and members of other unions have congregated beneath the Ikeja bridge.
Vehicle traffic was impeded and nearby businesses were closed as of the time this report was filed because of concern for an assault.
Recall that the NLC had threatened a demonstration in an effort to pressure the Federal Government and ASUU to settle their differences and call off the ongoing strike.
The demonstration would occur in all 36 states as well as the FCT, according to a statement released by NLC on July 17.
After the FG refused to comply with some of its demands, ASUU began its ongoing strike on February 14 and closed all public colleges.
Release of funds for university revitalization, renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement, release of earned allowances for university lecturers, and implementation of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution platform for the payment of salaries and allowances for university lecturers are among the demands.
