The Executive Chairman of Bariga Local Council, Hon. Alabi Kolade David hosted Lagos State Consumer
Protection Agency (LASCOPA) at Executive Chamber of the Local Council on Tuesday.
Amid the dangerous consumable products and other items, LASCOPA team led by the General Manager,
Mr Afolabi Solebi, paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman in other to awaken the consciousness of Bariga
residents.
While addressing the Chairman, Mr Solebo said “the main reason for our visit today is that we want to
move closer to the people of Bariga. We are going to kick start this plan with sensitisation programmes
that will guide Barigans of their rights as consumers”.
Hon. Alabi lauded LASCOPA delegation for their gesture and assures them of constant support from the
Local Council. Alabi reiterated “I want to thank you on behalf of the people of Bariga. We appreciate
you. Our people need protection from bad consumable items. Ensuring the safety of our people is part
of the mandate given to us and we must deliver. Part of the issues we have is that laws guiding
consumers’ right are not properly implemented”
The Executive Chairman noted that government needs to relate with the grassroots in order to succeed
in tackling crucial matters affecting the residents. “The government must approach issues from bottom
to top instead of top bottom. This will go a long way in satisfying our people”
