The Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, is the target of yet another N20 billion lawsuit, according to Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra.

Kanu alleged that the AGF defamed the IPOB leader when he said that the latter jumped bail and had requested N20 billion in damages through his attorney, Aloy Ejimakor.

This happened just four days after Kanu’s initial N20 billion lawsuit against Malami was dismissed.

“A declaration that the defendant’s arrest and imprisonment of the plaintiff (Kanu) at a location in Kenya and the subsequent imprisonment of the plaintiff in the aircraft that conveyed him from Kenya to Nigeria amounted to false arrest and false imprisonment,” was the request made in the first lawsuit, which was filed on September 23.

However, Kanu sought damages in the most recent lawsuit, filed on November 21, after what he claimed were false and malicious accusations made against him.

In a letter addressed to Malami and bearing the subject line “RE: Pre-action notice and formal demand for settlement of the claim of defamation/libel of the character of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu grounded on your false, defamatory and libellous publications that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu jumped bail,” the lawsuit was set forth.

On his Twitter page, Ejimakor shared copies of the document and stated: “Yesterday, I served on AGF Malami a Legal Notice (as required by law), notifying him of my intention to take legal action against him for his defamatory & libellous statements that #MNK jumped bail.”

Kanu claimed that Malami’s assertion that he jumped bail despite a court decision clearing him was libellous through the counsel for the defendant.

“Given the stated judgement of the Abia State High Court, your above remarks were false, malicious, and reckless and they were read and heard worldwide and depicted our Client in light,” Ejimakor wrote in the letter condemning Malami’s statement.

The amount of N20,000,000,000.00 (Twenty Billion Naira alone), being general and exemplary damages, was what Kanu asked, according to the letter.

“An unreserved personal letter of apology, to be prominently and boldly published full-page in two Nigerian Newspapers of national circulation, namely: Guardian Newspaper and Sun Newspaper.

“You shall write and deliver to your superior officer(s) and/or your employer(s) a Legal Opinion to the effect that our Client did not jump bail given the 19th January 2022 Judgment of the High Court of Abia State.”
