The returnees included the 30 girls in a viral video calling for Government assistance to return back to Nigeria.
The aircraft Middle East Airline carrying the returnees touched down at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at 4pm and were ushered into the arrival hall after observing Airport formalities.
The returnees were excited to be back home and this was demonstrated with dance and shouts of joy.
They were welcomed on arrival by the Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Mrs. Abike Dabiri joined by the Senior Special Assistant to Oyo State Government on Diaspora, Mrs. Bolanle Sarumi-Aliyu with representatives of NEMA and NAPTIP.
Speaking with reporters, Mrs. Dabiri-Erewa thanked the Federal Government for arranging a Middle East Airline special flight to bring the girls back home.
According to her, besides the 94 that arrived yesterday, another 104 were being expected in a few days time while others are billed to arrive next week through Abuja.
She advised young Nigerians that may still be nursing the idea of traveling illegally to Foreign Countries to throw away such idea, adding that it was not worth the trouble in view of the serious impact of the Corona virus pandemic which had led to the beaming of searchlight on illegal travelers.
The Special Assistant to the Oyo State Government confirmed that 55 Oyo State indigenes were among the returnees.
