The Corps Marshall, Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Mr. Boboye Oyeyemi says with the pace of work on the 3rd mainland bridge rehabilitation and the cooperation of motorists, the work may be completed before the six months deadline.
The Corps Marshall during an inspection of the traffic situation on the bridge, commended the synergy between the contractor, security, traffic agencies and the State Government in ensuring seamless traffic movements on the alternate routes.
With the partial closure of the bridge on the 24th of July this year, many anticipated that there would be gridlock in and out of the island and mainland.
The Corps Marshall said, this had not been the case because the daily repair work-plan and diversion of traffic between 12am to 1pm and 1pm to midnight still accommodates 75% of regular traffic on the bridge while 25% traffic is on the alternative routes.
He said more of his personnel would be deployed to identified traffic locations along Stadium road, Costain roundabout, Iponri, Surulere, Oyinbo, Carter bridge, iddo, CMS bus stop and Eko bridge.
Mr. Oyeyemi while commending the road users for their cooperation and understanding, assured them of Government commitment to ensuring motorable roads with the ongoing massive road rehabilitation across the Country.
On the work so far done on the 3rd mainland bridge, the Federal Controller Works, Lagos, Mr. Popoola Olukayode said, with the cutting of the asphalt on some of the expansion joints, the contractor was now in the process of extracting the steel out of the joints.
The maintenance work which is being implemented by the Federal Ministry of works and Housing is divided into two phases with each phase lasting 3 months.
Phase one is dedicated to repairs of the Oworonshoki bound Lane of the bridge while the second will focus on Lagos Island bound carriageway.
