The Screening Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has disqualified the incumbent Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, from contesting in the party’s Governorship primary election scheduled for June 22, 2020.

The committee chairman Prof. Jonathan stated this at a media briefing that the disqualification was due to non presentation of Governor Obaseki’s Higher School Leaving Certificate.

Prof. Ayuba noted that the committee could not ascertain the authenticity of Governor Obaseki’s National Youth Service Corps certificate. He stressed that the committee recommended that he is not eligible to contest in the election.

Engr. Chris Ogiemwonyi, who was also eyeing the Governor’s seat was also not cleared to contest over discrepancy in the names on his credentials.
Dr. Pius Odubu and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu were cleared to contest.
Earlier on Wednesday, 10 June, 2020 Governor Obaseki expressed fears that he might not get justice from the screening committee as the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, “an interested party in Edo”, was involved in the process.
Meanwhile, Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has rejected the verdict of the screening committee of the All Progressives Congress on his disqualification from participating in the party primary election.
According to a statement by Governor Obaseki, he described the committee’s verdict as “unjust, a show of shame, sinful, illegal and travesty of justice”.
