Chelsea Want To Sign Kai Havertz From Bayer Leverkusen This Summer

Chelsea are pretty much the only team making a splash in the transfer market so far, and while others may join in the future, right now it’s 2003-06 all over again, with Roman Abramovich flashing the cash and others complaining about the ethics and morals of it all.

Timo Werner may not be in the bag officially just yet, but it appears to be a done deal for all intents and purposes. So what’s next for Roman Abramovich, who is NOT spending £95m on Edward Munch’s “Scream” painting?
Havertz has been linked before, and not all that long ago either, and like Werner or Hakim Ziyech, there’s little doubting his overall quality and how fantastic a signing he could be for Chelsea. Also fantastic is his supposed price tag, a cool £75m, which would make him Chelsea’s record signing (Kepa holds the record with €80m, or roughly £72m).
The Mail claim that Chelsea are going “all out” for the 20-year-old, who has two years left on his contract. (Unlike Werner however, there is no buyout, though Bayer Leverkusen seem accepting of the fact that Havertz will leave sooner or later, and probably sooner.)

We’ve said for a long time that the best team-building strategy would be to buy the best and fill the rest (from the Academy). Havertz (like Werner) would certainly fit the former, and we’re already doing the latter thanks to Lampard’s Youth Revolution™. The team may be more in need of defensive players than attacking players, but if come down to spending £60m on Chilwell or £75m on Havertz, the latter would certainly be the more fun and exciting option.
Leverkusen have not received a formal offer for the 20-year old but it is believed Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have held talks with the club.
