Seun Kuti, a singer and activist from Nigeria, has called on Nigerians to take more tangible action towards change, emphasising that protests alone will not bring about significant change.
In an interview with Rubbin Minds on Channels Television, Kuti discussed the recent statewide #EndBadGovernance protests, which brought attention to the rising dissatisfaction over the country’s woes. He described the protests as only the start of a greater movement.

He called for a wider mobilisation towards a more equal system and emphasised the significance of not only protesting but also demonstrating a willingness to replace current leaders with legitimate representatives from the people’s side. “People wanting to protest is not enough. This dance begins with protest. When we start organising in large numbers to become socialists and free this nation from the current form of capitalism, then is when the true party begins.
“What I will say to Nigerians is that protest is not enough. I see protests as a child going to a loving parent complaining, ‘Oh, daddy, mummy, I don’t want to eat this,’ because the daddy and mummy care. But these people don’t care; that’s why I don’t preach protest only; I preach mass organisation because we the people must also organise ourselves for power.”
“It is not enough that we are protesting because we don’t like what they do, we must also send signals that we are ready to replace them. Not with another version of themselves like we did before, PDP to APC but with new people, representatives from our side of the divide to rule this country for our own benefit.”
