At the Friday Council of State meeting, which was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari and held in the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, former heads of state and presidents of Nigeria expressed support for the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) cashless policy.

Obasanjo, Gowon, Jonathan others back new cashless policy

Generals Yakubu Gowon, Abdulsalami Abubakar, and Goodluck Jonathan attended the meeting, while former President Olusegun Obasanjo joined it electronically.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Governors of Taraba, Darius Ishaku, Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, AGF Abubakar Malami, briefed State House reporters jointly and stated that members generally approved of the policy but expressed concerns about its implementation.

Ishaku declared: “The CBN was advised to make money available in quantum. The old money can also be recirculated to ease the suffering of the poorest of the poor.

According to Sanwo-Olu, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, informed the council on the level of readiness for the general elections in 2023 and guaranteed that they were completely prepared.

We are on track in terms of election readiness, according to Malami.
