Director of the Oba Sikiru Adetona Institute for Governance at Olabisi Onabanjo University in Ago Iwoye, Professor Adigun Agbaje, spoke about his two-day horror in the kidnappers’ hideout in the forest between Oyo and Ogun State on Monday, October 31, 2022.
Agbaje, a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the University of Ibadan, UI, was abducted together with an undetermined number of other motorists on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Friday night.
However, in a “Personal note of appreciation” to those who worked for their release that was written on his behalf by his son Adewale, Agbaje, who is currently undergoing treatment, confirmed that the five additional persons who were abducted with him are still being held by the kidnappers.
In a call to his family hours after he was detained, the kidnappers demanded N50 million to release Agbaje; however, he did not specify how much was given to the gunmen.

In a statement posted on Monday morning, Agbaje implied that he had been liberated following discussions with his kidnappers, writing, “You all kept hope alive and ensured that the sensitive negotiations came to a happy end when I won freedom yesterday evening.”
“I was shot at in the head during the abduction process. I thank God that the bullet that went through my car’s windscreen left only a skin deep wound on my head even though it left a gaping hole in the cap I was wearing.
“I did not even know about this till Saturday morning when I saw caked blood on my cap,” Agbaje said of his ordeal in the hands of the gunmen.
“My mind goes to the five others who are still left with the kidnappers: two young ladies, two young men and a middle aged person,” he added.
