In response to Senator Ibikunle Amoosun, the governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, said that Amoosun will fail in his “anti-party politics meant to scuttle his re-election attempt in 2023.”
Abiodun predicted that Amosun will lose the 2023 general elections as he did in the previous one after criticising Amosun for engaging in “dirty politics” and publicly pledging to work for the victory of a governorship candidate from another party.
Amosun said he will work against Abiodun’s quest for reelection in an interview with BBC Yoruba on Friday.
He added that the African Democratic Congress candidate, Biyi Otegbeye, had already been positioned against him, which infuriated the state governor.

Abiodun reportedly dismissed the former governor’s outburst as “an empty threat of a fallen man” during a meeting with members of the Nigeria Automobile Technicians Association at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Abeokuta, adding that “my second term is already predestined by God.”
The Governor expressed regret that Amosun had so easily forgotten that his adopted candidate “lost terribly” in the most recent national election, despite the fact that he was still serving as the governor of Ogun.
Abiodun claimed he was unconcerned by his predecessor’s “empty threat” because a similar threat in 2019 was ineffective.
“The same thing that person did in 2019 and failed woefully, even when he was still the governor in the state, he is now preparing to fail again and even fall down.
“We are waving goodbye to him now. He is not even a candidate of any political party. He is nothing and he is saying he will stop a governor that God has ordained; he will definitely fail again by the grace of God.”
