However, the march was stopped in Ebonyi State when police used tear gas on the supporters. Governor David Umahi denied being the one who ordered the interruption, as claimed by Obi’s supporters. Later, the rally went on as participants marched through multiple Abakaliki streets.

Banners with various slogans were held by Obi’s supporters in the Plateau state in the north-central region. Around 9:00 am, they reassembled at Secretariat Junction to intensify their campaign for the LP flagbearer.

Similar events occurred in Imo State, as Obi’s supporters thronged the streets to campaign for the former banker. They assert that their candidate has the qualifications to help Nigeria emerge from its economic crisis and said the gathering was intended to send a clear message to other candidates that Obi’s supporters extend beyond social media.

In addition to Imo, followers of Obi in Bayelsa State also mobilised for the former Peoples Democratic Party vice presidential candidate by marching along major roadways (PDP).

The so-called Obidients carried signs that read, among other things, “Our Mumu don do,” “We Need Someone Who Will Fix Nigeria,” and “Peter Obi Stands the Better Chance to Restore Nigeria.”

Additionally, there were protests at Suleja in Niger State and Awka, the capital of Anambra State.

Similar protests were organised by the LP candidate’s supporters exactly one week prior in the states of Taraba, Benue, Ondo, and Enugu in support of a change in Nigeria’s political landscape.

According to observers, the latest marches are out of the ordinary. Obi’s support base, which is primarily made up of young people, is anticipated to grow even more in the months leading up to the elections in 2023.
