Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma claims it is his duty to persuade the state’s residents to support Bola Tinubu, the APC’s presidential candidate, in the general elections of 2023.

Voters will decide the popularity of the ruling party during the polls next year, according to Uzodimma, who made the statement on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, September 13, 2022.

I am a member of a political party. It is my duty to persuade my constituency that my party has the greatest policies for the nation. I’ll persuade the electorate.

Although there are “local rivalries here and there,” the governor asserted that the APC’s accomplishments will speak for the group when voting.

“Let me bring my political party’s programmes to my people; let me promote my political party’s programmes to my people. Let my people vote in the election when it occurs. They will then decide whether to accept my party or my candidate based on the results of the election, Uzodimma said.

When asked if Tinubu would win the 2023 presidential election, Uzodimma responded that his accomplishments continue to earn “converts” for the state’s ruling party.

“The presidential election is an election for Nigerian President, not for Igbo President…Bola Ahmed Tinubu is candidate of APC to be President of Nigeria, not President of Igbo, or Yoruba or Hausa,” he noted.

As the election in February approaches, calls for a president of South-East extraction continue to rule public discourse. Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, the foremost Igbo sociocultural organisation, has led the way in this effort. The organisation most recently supported Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate for the Labour Party.
