Following a knee injury at his new club, Juventus, Paul Pogba might not play in this year’s World Cup in Qatar.
Little more than two weeks after rejoining the Italian team, the former Manchester United midfielder suffered an injury during training.
His readiness to represent France at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar is now seriously questioned.
Pogba’s injury wasn’t first thought to be serious because he was able to limp off the practise field with the help of Juve’s medical team.
As soon as Juve revealed in an official statement that tissues in Pogba’s knee had been ripped and additional inspection revealed he is now set to have surgery, it was evident the ailment would keep Pogba out of play for a while.
He will be out of commission for a while following surgery, which will be followed by a protracted rehabilitation period.
Pogba has returned to Italy after Juventus’ preseason tour of the United States, and two potential treatments are currently being looked at for his knee issue.
Pogba might be out for four to five months if that happens.
The Player and the team are thought to favour a meniscectomy at this time because it will allow for a quicker return to play, but Pogba’s choice may be made for him.
Massimiliano Allegri’s intentions for him would not change if he were compelled to spend up to five months on a treatment table until 2023.
In addition to missing France’s upcoming World Cup campaign in the Middle East, which is scheduled to begin in November, he would also sit out the first half of Juventus’ Serie A title defence.
If he is just gone for a few months, he might miss the start of a Champions League group stage campaign as well as perhaps seven games in the Italian premier division.
