Dignitaries from the state attended the program. Mr. Babajide Sanwoolu, the governor of Lagos State, was excellently represented by his vice, Hon. Mrs. Adeola Zainot Kuponiyi, while Mrs. Christiana Bisayo Ayobola, the representative for LASPARK, represented the general manager of LASPARK.

Otunba Gboyega Adefuwa, the supervisor for the environment, made the introductory remarks while Pedro Primary School kids were on the scene to occupy the audience.

The governor’s address, which was read by vice chairman Hon. Kuponiyi, emphasized the crucial role that trees play in reversing the effects of climate change.

The governor continued by stating that the environmental catastrophe did not start locally and that treating nature and other living things fairly is a crucial component in re-regulating human growth.

No country or city is immune from the negative effects of climate change; we are seeing food and water insecurity, rising temperatures, weather extremes, natural disasters, economic disruption, conflict, and terrorism, as well as in our own beloved Lagos state. Furthermore, he noted that despite positive advancements in policies, science, and technology, the alarm related to the health of our planet is ringing very loudly to announce that we must go into emergency mode.

The discrepancy between what we should be spending on adaptation and what we are really doing is growing. In fact, planting trees is now seen of as a long-term investment that has the unexpected potential to advance all 17 SDGs.

It is noteworthy that the administration sectorial policies and plans have moved the issue of climate action into the mainstream.

“There is growing awareness among the citizenry about the need to rethink the way we live and consume , as well as roles each of us can play to make a difference .

While the government is expected to lead the process , success will depend on concerted efforts by all stakeholders” the governor concluded.

Hon Temitope Okanlawon (leader of the house) and other councillors, Hon Mofolohunso Adebomojo (Chief of Staff), Otunba Gboyega Adefuwa (Supervisor for Environment) and other supervisors, Hon Abayomi Okeowo (chairman task force for environment), Mr Femi Oladapo (HoD environment, Bariga) and other management staff, Bariga environmental
