For the July 16 Osun governorship election, the Federal Road Safety Corps, or FRSC, has deployed 1,500 troops to strictly enforce mobility restrictions.
According to a statement made on Monday by Bisi Kazeem, the Corps Public Education Officer, the election observers have also been instructed to remove roadblocks, conduct rescue operations in case of crises, and maintain order in polling places.
According to the statement, the deployment was done as part of efforts to ensure that the upcoming election would go through without a hitch.
Boboye Oyeyemi, the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, according to Kazeem, also instructed his men to work with other security agencies such as the Independent National Electoral Commission and the Nigeria Police Force.
“To ensure that the Corps plays effective role in the elections, the Corps Marshal has directed the deployment of 1500 personnel of the Corps and 35 Vehicles including tow trucks, ambulances to strengthen enforcement of restrictions during the entire process of the election,” the statement said.
According to the statement, Oyeyemi advised the staff to actively participate in democratic processes, display the highest level of professionalism, and abstain from any temptation that can result in violating voters’ rights.
Oyeyemi also wished state residents a peaceful, free, and fair election while urging the electorates to abide by all restrictions as they would be issued.
