Buhari Swears In 7 New Ministers, Announces Minor Cabinet Changes

At the State House in Abuja on Wednesday, President Muhammadu Buhari swore in seven new ministers. He also announced a slight cabinet reorganization.

The impacted ministers who took the oath of office are Goodluck Opiah (Imo), Umar El-Yakub (Kano), and Ademola Adegoroye, according to InsightnaijaTV (Ondo). Henry Ikoh (Abia), Ekumankama Nkama (Ebonyi), Umana Okon Umana (Akwa Ibom), and Odum Odi (Rivers).

According to reports, six of the ministers took the places of six former federal executive council members who had resigned in order to take part in the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) most recent party primaries, while El-Yakub took the place of former agriculture minister Sabo Nanono, who had been fired.

Sen. Adeleke Mamora, the Minister of State for Health, was appointed as the new Minister of Science and Technology by the president, who made the announcement shortly before the Federal Executive Council meeting began. Mua’azu Sambo, the Minister of State for Works, was also moved to the Ministry of Transportation as a substantive Minister.

Umanna Umanna has been appointed Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, and Sharon Ikeazor, Minister of State for the Environment, has been appointed Minister of State for the Niger Delta Ministry.

Sen. Gbemisola Saraki, a Minister of State, has been transferred to the Ministry of Mines and Steel, while Umar El-Yakub is now the Minister of State Works and Housing.

Additionally appointed by the president are Goodluck Apiah as Minister of State for Education, Ekumankama Nkama as Minister of State for Health, Ikoh Ikechekwu as Minister of State for Science and Technology, Odum Udi as Minister of State for Environment, and Ademola Adegoroye as Minister of State for Transportation.

According to sources, a minute of silence was observed before to the swearing-in in memory of Mohammed Barkindo, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries’ (OPEC) departing Secretary-General, who passed away on Tuesday night at the age of 63.

The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, and the President’s Chief of Staff, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, are all there in person.

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, as well as the Ministers of Labor and Employment, Chris Ngige, Education, Adamu Adamu, Communication and the Digital Economy, and Isa Pantami, were also present.

Olamilekan Adegbite, Minister of State for Mines and Steel; Timipre Sylva, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources; Clem Agba, Minister of State for the Budget and National Planning; and Maryam Katagun, Minister of State for Industry, Trade, and Investment, are additional ministers.
