Political parties may be prevented from submitting candidates for the general elections in 2023, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Presidential and National Assembly elections will take place on Saturday, February 25, 2023, while the Governorship and State Assembly elections will take place on Saturday, March 11, 2023, InsightnaijaTV reports.

According to INEC’s schedule, political parties will hold primary elections from April 4 to June 3, 2022.

As a result, the election umpire has issued a severe warning to all political parties, repeating what he previously stated. “that parties must adhere strictly to the principles of internal democracy, drawing from their constitutions, guidelines, the Electoral Act and other Regulations and Guidelines issued by the Commission.”

Festus Okoye, the INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, stated in a statement that candidates for all 1,491 seats where elections would be held must emerge from democratic, transparent, and valid primaries.

According to Okoye, the primaries must follow the terms of Sections 29 and 84 of the Electoral Act of 2022.

The commission issued a warning. “Where a political party fails to comply with the provisions of the Act in the conduct of its primaries, its candidate shall not be included in the election for the particular position in issue.”

As required by law, INEC must supervise all primaries, according to Okoye, since parties must submit the appropriate legal notice in accordance with Sections 82 (1) and (5) of the Electoral Act.

“Failure of a political party to notify the Commission of any convention or congress convened for the purpose of nominating candidates for any of the elective offices specified in the Act shall render the convention or congress invalid,” Okoye stated.

According to Section 84 of the Electoral Act, primary elections must be held in the various seats.

The conduct of primaries outside the constituencies for which parties are nominating candidates, he said, is a breach of the law, and INEC will not monitor such primaries, and the results will be discarded.

Okoye finished by asking political parties to avoid fractious primary elections, which could result in needless litigation and the failure to select and field candidates in some constituencies.

But, what about this?consider this, what if you were to write a killer headlinetitle?content?typed a catchier title? I ain’t saying your content isn’t good.ain’t saying your content isn’t gooddon’t want to tell you how to run your blog, but what if you added a titleheadlinetitle that grabbed people’s attention?maybe get a person’s attention?want more? I mean %BLOG_TITLE% is a little vanilla. You ought to look at Yahoo’s home page and see how they createwrite news headlines to get viewers interested. You might add a video or a related picture or two to get readers interested about what you’ve written. Just my opinion, it might bring your postsblog a little livelier.
