The Wife of the Governor of Lagos State, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu says the Jigi-Bola relaunch is a celebration of one of the legacy grassroots outreach programmes of the former Governor of Lagos, Bola Ahmed Tinubu which commenced twenty years ago saying at certain times patients with eye conditions requiring surgical operations were attended to at no cost.
She said in year twenty thousand and one Jigi Bola, an initiative meant to provide free eye screening was conceived while free eye glasses were given to beneficiaries  adding that a large number of causes with visual impairment and hearing loss were preventable and many could be treated effectively, if detected early.
The Lagos First Lady, said according to the World Health Organisation, at least two point two billion people have near or distant visual impairment while an estimates of two point seven million adult aged forty years and above were affected as well as an additional four hundred thousand adults were severely visually impaired
Prior to the flag- off ceremony,  a team of Medical professionals in conjunction with the Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Kadri Obafemi Hamzat LAGOS Health Care Mission, BOSKOH LAGOS HMI, have been engaged to screen eligible patients for the prescription glasses and hearing aid.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Akin Abayomi, has thanked Stakeholders for partnering the present administration on the relaunch of the Jigi-Bola initiative. He said the initiative would help in bringing relief and awareness to Lagosians that suffer visual impairment and hearing loss.
