Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Chief Mudashiru Obasa, has said security will be given serious consideration in the 2021 budget, saying the State Government will improve on what it has achieved.
Chief Obasa said this while speaking at the opening ceremony of a Four-Day Retreat On Medium-Term Expenditure Framework And Budget Process For Members And Staff of Lagos State House of Assembly tagged ” Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) As A Critical Tool For Effective Planning And Budgeting” held in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The Speaker said security had improved tremendously, but that the achievements needed to be consolidated.
Chief Obasa said that the retreat was to enhance the human capacity of the lawmakers in the area of budget oversight, saying that the knowledge of MTEF was critical to the understanding of budget planning and process.
He added that the knowledge acquired from the retreat would improve the oversight performance of the lawmakers in the coming years, stressing that it would add positively to the understanding of their roles in the discharge of their responsibility during oversight.
He said despite the challenges of COVID 19, the 2020 budget was well implemented and that the State Government was able to put smile on the faces of the people.
Earlier, in an address of welcome, the Acting Clerk of the House, Mr. Olalekan Onafeko, said Lagos since its emergence as a democratic State in 1979 had been playing a prominent role in the transformation of Nigeria’s economy, and that of West Africa.
