Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, informed Bola Tinubu, the APC’s nominee for president in 2023, on Saturday that he is not a member of any political party.
Speaking at the eighth KadInvest, an annual event hosted by the Kaduna State Investment Promotion Agency, Sanusi mentioned the mounting debt load, oil theft, uneven subsidy payments, and rising foreign exchange rates as some of the current financial and economic issues Nigeria is facing.
The keynote speaker, Sanusi, addressed the issue of “improving subnational resilience against global economic shocks” sought accountability at the highest levels and openness in the management of the nation’s resources, arguing that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited should be handled independently rather than as a cash cow.
Sanusi also asked states to stop depending too heavily on the Federal Government.

“I keep repeating, hope you remember that I lost my job at the central bank for this same problem. It is not about a particular party. I have no party. My party is Nigeria. This is the problem we had in 2014. Asiwaju (Tinubu) knows my party is Nigeria,” he said whilst addressing the audience including Tinubu.
